Getting Hands On in Support of Housing Equity
Prosperity sponsors Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles’ Power Women, Power Tools event
Continuing its commitment to housing equity, Prosperity Home Mortgage has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles and joined the Habitat team on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for its 18th annual Power Women, Power Tools® build event. Through the years, Habitat LA’s and its volunteers at the Power Women, Power Tools events have built dozens of homes, transforming the lives of hundreds of low-income residents in need of affordable housing.
Prosperity served as a Silver sponsor at the event, which two of its executive team attended as volunteers. Becky Helvey, senior vice president of administration, and Matt Torres, senior vice president of compliance and community lending, donned pink hard hats alongside dozens of other volunteers to help build a new community in the Willowbrook neighborhood of Los Angeles. In total, Habitat LA will build eight new homes in the area—all one-story detached properties with private yards and attached garages.
“As part of my job, I report on our company’s successes at helping increase homeownership opportunities across the diverse markets we serve, and as powerful as it is to see the progress we continue to make, it pales in comparison to getting out and putting hammer to nail in building real homes for people in need of decent and affordable housing,” said Torres. “I’m proud of our company for its overall commitment to housing equity, as well as its support and encouragement of our team to get involved and give back.”
